Head of OSCE Office in Bishkek Comes to MGIMO

December 21st, MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Human Resources Vladimir Morozov and Professor Elina Sidorenko welcomed Ambassador Pierre von Arx, Head of the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the OSCE Academy in Kyrgyzstan.

In his opening remarks, Vladimir Morozov noted that expanding academic cooperation is especially important in times of international turmoil as it fosters good relations between countries. The Vice-Rector related the history of MGIMO University and described the type of cooperation it engages in, from short placements to joint educational programs, with foreign universities and international organizations.

Pierre von Arx spoke about the activities of the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, which was founded in 2002, and described the different Masters programs it has opened for students from Central Asia, Afghanistan and Mongolia. The selection process is extremely tough and demand is high for education at this institution.

During the meeting, the sides mulled over the different opportunities for cooperation between the two universities, including student internships, exchange of faculty and joint research initiatives. Pierre von Arx expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and expressed his willingness to deliver a lecture to MGIMO students in the near future.
