April 18th-19th, the fifth Vietnam Day, organized by the Vietnamese club and the ASEAN Center, unfolded at MGIMO.
The Ambassador of Vietnam to Russia, Ngo Duc Manh, kicked off Vietnam Day with a lecture on bilateral relations and the role of Vietnam in ASEAN. The guest was greeted by MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for General Affairs Artem Malgin, the Head of the International Office Egor Andreev and the Director of the ASEAN Centre Viktor Sumsky.
2019 is a cross-year of Russia and Vietnam, which marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of friendly relations between Russia and Vietnam. In honour of this occasion, Artem Malgin underlined the importance of holding joint events, and shared with the audience the plans for joint activities developed by MGIMO and the ASEAN Centre. The Vietnamese Ambassador spoke about relations between Vietnam and Russia and his country’s chairmanship of ASEAN scheduled for 2020. He also answered questions about bilateral trade, Vietnam’s foreign policy and employment opportunities for students who speak Vietnamese.
During the round table on «The Cross-Year of Russia and Vietnam», experts from the Association of Lawyers of Russia, the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, professors and researchers from different universities discussed a myriad of topics including the digital economy, the Vietnamese diaspora in Russia and Vietnamese cuisine. Guests also participated in a quiz on the Vietnamese culture, a workshop on the «Traditional Vietnamese Tea Ceremony», watched a traditional film and attended a gala concert on «Multifaceted Vietnam.»
