MGIMO Hosts International Forum «Values and Interests in Communication between Russia and the West»

26 April 2019

April 25th-26th, the international forum «Values and Interests in Communication between Russia and the West», jointly organized by MGIMO and King’s College in London, unfolded at MGIMO. The event was sponsored by the Gerda Henkel Foundation.

The main goal of the conference was to find some practical solutions to the problem of values and interests in modern world politics. The forum was kicked off by the University’s Vice-Rector for Research Evgeny Kozhokin and attracted experts from MGIMO, other Russian research centres (Vladivostok, Saint Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Nizhny Novgorod) and abroad (the UK, Israel, Germany and Switzerland).

The participants discussed a wide range of issues including Russia and the West’s perception of different events in world politics and the paths for cooperation between the two players. The forum consisted of several academic round tables attended by representatives of the media, business, the academic community, students and others. Amidst tensions in the relations between Russia and the West, this event was a significant step forward, testifying to the potential of academic diplomacy in solving global problems.
