Andrey Baykov at V meeting of Russian-Turkish Public Forum

July 11th–12th, the second forum of rectors of Russian and Turkish universities was held in St. Petersburg, in the framework of the V Russian-Turkish Public Forum.

Faculty members of 36 Russian and Turkish universities gathered for the forum. Almost all Russian federal districts were represented at the event. MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs Andrey Baykov participated in the event.

Kicking of the forum, the Head of Rossotrudnichestvo and Co-Chairperson of the Russian Turkish Public Forum on the Russian side, Eleonora Mitrofanova, noted that Turkish youth has a growing interest in learning Russian and studying at Russian universities.

Against the backdrop of the forum, MGIMO’s Vice-Rector signed an agreement with Bosphorus University (Istanbul), which allows for student exchanges, joint academic activities, exchanges of faculty members and administrative staff, developing dual degree programs and holding joint scientific events. Bosphorus University was founded in 1863 and is one of the leading universities in Turkey.

The Russian-Turkish Public Forum was set up by the High Level Cooperation Council, itself established based on the decision of the Russian and Turkish Presidents in 2010. The Board of the Forum is headed on the Russian side by the Director of Rossotrudnichestvo, Eleonora Mitrofanova and on the Turkish side by the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Ahmet Berat Conkar.

The Russian-Turkish Public Forum gathers academics, businessmen, representatives of non-governmental and cultural organizations. The work of the forum is split between ten committees, each of which specializes in a specific area of cooperation and has moderators from the Russian and Turkish sides.
