MGIMO Delegation Visits Uzbekistan

October 2nd, a delegation from MGIMO led by the Rector of the University, Anatoly Torkunov, made a three-day visit to Tashkent at the invitation of the Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov.

On the first day, Alexander Panov, the Head of MGIMO’s Department for Diplomatic Studies, gave a lecture at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) of the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan. In the evening, the management of both universities had a meeting to discuss cooperation in education and research.

October 3rd, MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov had an interview with Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, during which they mulled over bilateral relations between their two countries and made plans to enhance academic cooperation by creating common training programs.

Anatoly Torkunov also discussed with the Rector of UWED the opportunity to develop relations between MGIMO and UWED by creating joint MA and MBA programs. They also elaborated plans to establish a School of MGIMO at UWED to train International Relations specialists. The meeting was followed by a solemn ceremony during which Anatoly Torkunov was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of UWED and delivered a lecture to an audience of students and faculty members.
