On June 27, 2023 MGIMO welcomed a school delegation from Thailand. The visit was organized by the ASEAN Centre, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand in Moscow and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
By the initiative of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand in Russia and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Thai delegation of high school students visited Saint Petersburg and Moscow. During their stay in Saint Petersburg the delegates took part into the Scarlet Sails festival. The event was intended to strengthen cultural dialogue between Russia and Thailand and promote bilateral cultural exchange.
In MGIMO the Thai delegation got acquainted with BA and MA students studying Thai language. The event was attended by Ms. Waraphanee Damrongmanee, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand, Ms. Kanokphan Chinsawananon, First Secretary of the Embassy, Ms. Pimpicha Kerdmanee, International Affairs Officer of BMA, Dr. Ekaterina Koldunova, Director of the ASEAN Centre and Associate Professor of the Department of Asian and African Studies, Dr. Valeria Vershinina and Ms. Kira Tabunova, Experts of the ASEAN Centre, and Ms. Daria Borisova, Lecturer of Thai language, Department of Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Lao languages.
Dr. Ekaterina Koldunova welcomed the Thai guests and highlighted the event’s significance for strengthening educational and cultural ties between Russia and Thailand. The representatives of the Embassy of Thailand in Moscow expressed their gratitude to the ASEAN Centre for its help in organizing the delegation’s visit. The Thai students told about rich and divorce culture of their motherland and Russian students told about their country’s biggest cities. The delegation also had the opportunity to learn more about the activities of the ASEAN Centre and visit the Rare Book and MGIMO History Museums.
