Ambassador of Tunisia Comes to MGIMO

April 26th, the Ambassador of Tunisia to Russia Tarak Ben Salem gave a lecture to MGIMO students at the invitation of the Middle East and African Clubs of the University’s Student Academic Society.

The Head of the International Department E.Andreev and the Deputy Head of the Department of Middle East Languages N.Pantyukhin welcomed the guest.

The event, held in Arabic and translated into Russian, was timed to coincide with the 65th anniversary of the start of diplomatic relations between the two states. The translation was performed by MA students Amir Galyautdinov, Nadezhda Barabanova, Vyacheslav Gulitov, Vladislav Korenyugin and Arseny Petrov.

The lecture delivered by the guest to the students and professors of the University spanned a wide range of topics related to Russian-Tunisian relations from regional politics, tourism and education to space exploration, medicine and trade.

After the lecture, the ambassador took questions from the audience about the prospects of economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries and the opportunities for joint actions to ensure peace in North Africa and counter terrorism.

At the end of the meeting, the ambassador praised the students over their high level of awareness of current events and their proficiency in the Arabic language.
