Muneo Suzuki Comes to MGIMO

April 13th, MGIMO welcomed Muneo Suzuki, a remarkable politician from the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, who occupied high positions in the Japanese government.

Introducing the guest, MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov emphasized the fact that Muneo Suzuki is a staunch supporter of enhancing cooperation between Russia and Japan and has played a decisive role in many projects in this field. Originating from Hokkaido, the Japanese Politician has devoted a lot of energy to improving relations between the Japanese inhabitants of the island and the Russians living in the South Kurils.

In the speech he delivered to an audience of MGIMO students and faculty members, Muneo Suzuki described the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s policies towards Russia, noting his determination to improve bilateral relations in all spheres, foster an atmosphere of mutual trust and establish joint economic activities in the South Kuril Islands. The guest also expressed confidence that the upcoming visit of the Head of the Japanese government to Moscow (April 27th −28th) and his interview with President Vladimir Putin would yield positive results for relations between their two countries.
