SPIEF-2021: "Artificial Intelligence or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind?"

SPIEF-2021:

5 June 2021

June 5th, within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, a session entitled "Artificial Intelligence or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind?" took place.

Artificial intelligence is now more reality than science fiction. Internet users are getting pop-up ads for things they talked about recently, and new social media sites automatically access and search people’s contacts. It is therefore essential to raise awareness of artificial intelligence. What should people understand about artificial intelligence, and what benefits and risks are associated with machine learning? What possibilities can artificial intelligence offer in terms of business planning and training? What progress might be made in the future through the use of artificial intelligence? Does a golden age beckon for humanity, or will we inevitably see an AI takeover?

The speakers of the session were INSEAD professor Anton Ovchinnikov, the Leader of the Work Group for the Assessment of Risks Associated with Cryptocurrencies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Elina Sidorenko, the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Vladislav Fedulov, the Director of AI Technology Development of Yandex, Alexander Kraynov, the Head of Machine Intelligence Laboratory of Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology K. Vorontsov.

In her speech, Elina Sidorenko noted that the development of AI is associated with legal and ethical risks, including discrimination against people and the use of artificial intelligence in military contexts.

The meeting was moderated by Boris Yaryshevsky, Senior Vice President and Member of the Directorate for Strategy and Development Projects at Promsvyazbank.
