South African Foreign Minister Talks to MGIMO Students

November 22nd, MGIMO welcomed the South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Lindiwe Sisulu. The guest had a meeting with MGIMO’s management and gave a talk to students of the University.

MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for General Affairs Artem Malgin greeted the guest and the sides discussed how to expand cooperation between universities in Russia and South Africa through BRICS Network University. The meeting was also attended by the Head of MGIMO’s International Office Egor Andreev and members of the faculty.

After that, the minister gave a talk to students of the University. Artem Malgin introduced the guest of honor and described the friendly relations, which exist between our two countries.

Lindiwe Sisulu noted that it is an honor for her to speak at MGIMO in front of future diplomats and devoted her presentation to Africa in the modern world. The minister spoke about South Africa’s foreign policy priorities and about her country securing a seat as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2019-2020. She also mulled over sustainable development goals, the need to resolve political and military conflicts in Africa, and South Africa’s role in regional organizations.
