February 21st, the second All-Russian Youth Forum entitled «International military-political and military-economic cooperation: modern tendencies» unfolded at MGIMO. Defence Minister and General of the Russian Army Sergey Shoygu gave an introductory lecture to the audience.

MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov welcomed the guests and paid tribute, on the eve of Defender of the Fatherland Day, to all those serving the interests of their country in the military.

The Defence Minister’s lecture was devoted to Russia’s military-industrial complex and its defence strategy. Sergey Shoygu spoke in depth about the fight Russia is waging against terrorism and its military involvement in Syria, noting that destroying terrorists in Syria prevents them from reaching Russian soil.

The Speaker analyzed the current changes in world politics, underlined the importance of international collaboration to keep problems at bay and remarked that establishing an equal dialogue with Western countries in the military sphere would significantly improve regional and world security. The Minister noted the important role played by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Collective Security Treaty Organization in promoting cooperation. Sergey Shoygu also emphasized Russia’s might in the military-economic sphere, exporting military goods worldwide.

Upon completion of his lecture, the Minister extended to all his congratulations on Defender of the Fatherland day and noted how useful the skills taught at MGIMO are for the Ministry of Defence.
