November 13th, the “Russian-British Round Table on Higher Education: From Policy to Practice” was organized at the residence of the British Ambassador in Moscow. The event focused on the coordination of practical ways to develop cooperation between the UK and Russia in the spheres of higher education and research.

The round table, kicked off by the British Ambassador to Russia Laurie Bristow and the Executive Director of the National Training Foundation Irina Arzhanova, was a prolongation of the First Forum of Rectors of Universities of Russia and Great Britain, which took place at Moscow State University and was opened by the First Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education G.Trubnikov and the Special Representative of the Russian President for International Cultural Cooperation M.Shvydkoy.

MGIMO was represented at the round table by its Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs Andrey Baykov, who acted as moderator of the session on the expansion of international education and joint and dual degree programs.

The main goal of the session was to identify the most efficient ways of expanding cooperation over the next three years, finding ways to implement targeted bilateral initiatives, and limiting the possible risks occurring during the implementation phase.

At the end of the meeting, the moderators summarized the main proposals and recommendations made by the working group, which will be submitted to the Union of Rectors of Russia.

The participants agreed to hold the Second Russian-British Forum of Rectors in June 2020.
