MGIMO Among Top Universities in QS Emerging Europe and Central Asia Ranking

31 October 2018

October 30th, the international ranking agency QS published the 5th edition of its Emerging Europe and Central Asia universities rating.

This ranking was created to take into account the specificities of the higher education system in CIS countries, the Baltic States and Central and Eastern Europe. Among the 305 universities that made it into the list of finalists, 107 were Russian. Our Country has three universities in the top 5 and 12 in the top 50.

The ranking methodology considers six traditional QS criteria and four specific parameters to compare the performance of universities: academic reputation (30%), employer reputation (20%), faculty to student ratio (10%), proportion of international students and international faculty (2.5% each), number of citations per published paper (5%), the proportion of faculty staff with a PhD (5%), the number of papers published per faculty member (10%) and each University’s web impact, which is an estimation of its Internet resources (5%). This year, for the first time, experts also assessed the quality of universities’ international research networks (10%).

In the 2018 ranking, MGIMO progressed in some criteria such as the faculty to student ratio, employer reputation and held its position as to the share of foreign students; taking in all the 54th place in the list of finalists.
