President of Kazakhstan Meets with MGIMO Alumni

During the Forum of MGIMO Graduates in Astana, the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev had a meeting with alumni of the University. Also attending the event were the Chairman of the Senate Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov and the Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Kairat Abdrakhmanov.

The President gave a talk in which he underlined the excellent reputation MGIMO has in diplomatic circles and in foreign ministries, the world over. Nursultan Nazarbayev also noted that the youth of his country has always wanted to study at MGIMO, that this trend is not changing and that Kazakhstan has established effective ties with MGIMO and Moscow State University, which has a branch operating in Astana.

The President also underscored the importance of interstate dialogue and the need to train qualified experts to further the work of the Eurasian Economic Union. The guests conveyed their hearty thanks to the President for the kind welcome they received in Astana.
