April 4th, the Ambassador of Bulgaria to Russia Alexander Kovatchev participated in an event at MGIMO dedicated to the 140th anniversary of Russian-Bulgarian relations and had an interview with representatives of the University.
The guest was greeted by the University’s Vice-Rector for Human Resources, Vladimir Morozov and the Associate Professor from the Department of Central and South-Eastern European Languages, Nina Karzhavina. During their meeting, the sides mulled over the opportunities for academic cooperation between MGIMO and the University of National and World Economy.
The ambassador also took part in a conference hosted by MGIMO and dedicated to the 140th anniversary of Russian-Bulgarian relations («The Balkan Crossroad and the relations with Russia after 1989») and the 140th anniversary of the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule.
The conference was kicked off by representatives of UNESCO and the Embassy of Bulgaria in Russia and attended by Bulgarian students from the National School of Sofia «St. Constantine Cyril the Philosopher», the University of National and World Economy and Sofia University. MGIMO was represented at the event by a group of fourth year students and by Associate Professor Nina Karzhavina who gave a talk on how the Bulgarian language is taught at MGIMO.
Many important issues were discussed during the event including the role of education as an instrument for sustainable development and for maintaining a productive international dialogue, the history of bilateral relations, economic cooperation and Bulgaria’s future prospects.
The event was organized by MGIMO SGIA student club «Future World Diplomats» (FWD) and by the Institute for Social Research and Development of Cultural Structures (ISIRCS) from Bulgaria.
