19 February 2018

February 19th, a new course jointly designed by MGIMO and the Israel Institute in Washington and entitled «The State of Israel: History and Modernity» began at the University.

The first lecture was opened by the Executive Director of the Israel Institute Ariel Roth, who gave a talk about the cultural and political history of Israel, the transformations which led to the birth of the modern Jewish national movement, which itself was conducive to the creation of a state.

That same day, an exhibition entitled «Diplomats-Righteous Among the Nations», dedicated to the memory of those civil servants and diplomats from different countries, who showed heroism and exceptional courage in saving the lives of Jews during World War II, opened at MGIMO. The participants of the course were invited to take part in the inauguration ceremony of the exposition.

The course «The State of Israel: History and Modernity» is supported by MGIMO’s School of Business and International Proficiency and by the Embassy of Israel in Russia. Classes will run until May. The next lectures are scheduled for March 5th and 19th and will be dedicated to social questions, state policy and technological innovation in Israel.
