MGIMO Rector Meets with Ambassador of Turkmenistan

November 8th, MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov welcomed to the University the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Russia Batir Niyazliev.

Anatoly Torkunov spoke with the guest about the different ways of boosting cooperation between MGIMO and the Institute of International Relations of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

The two universities have an ongoing partnership agreement, which was signed in October 2017. Anatoly Torkunov conveyed to the Ambassador his desire to invite the Rector of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Baba Zakhyrov to MGIMO for a working visit in February or March next year. The sides also spoke about how MGIMO welcomes Turkmen students and about the activities of the Turkmen student club at the University.

As the visit came to a close, the Ambassador suggested that a scientific conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Status of Permanent Neutrality be organized next year. The Rector agreed to support this initiative and the preliminary date suggested was October 2020.

The meeting was also attended by the Head of the International Office Egor Andreev.
