March 2nd, MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov greeted the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Russian Federation, Batyr Niyazliev. During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of cooperation in education and research.
The visiting delegation also included the Embassy’s Advisor on Education and Trade Representative. On MGIMO’s side, the Head of the International Office Egor Andreev participated in the discussions together with the University’s Rector.
The sides mulled over the prospects for collaboration between Russian and Turkmen universities. In February 2017, MGIMO signed a cooperation agreement with the Institute of International Relations (at the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan), which serves as a framework for student exchanges and joint research.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Turkmenistan and the participants of the meeting made plans to hold a roundtable in April 2017 to celebrate this event.
