April 24th, an updated Memorandum on Cooperation was signed by MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs, Andrey Baykov, and the Vice-President of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam Pham Lan Dung, on behalf of their respective universities.
The visiting delegation included representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia. On MGIMO’s side, the meeting was attended by the Head of the International Office, Egor Andreev, the Director of the ASEAN Center, Victor Sumsky and members of the faculty.
The two universities have been cooperating since 2001, when MGIMO signed a first memorandum with the predecessor of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam- the Institute for International Relations of Vietnam. As both universities showed an interest in maintaining and developing their collaboration, they decided to update the legal basis of the partnership.
During their interview, the parties considered the next steps, which could be taken to expand cooperation. The Vice-President of the Diplomatic Academy, an MGIMO graduate herself, expressed interest in implementing exchange programs for students and faculty members and in setting up joint academic events. Victor Sumsky invited Pham Lan Dung to participate in the first meeting of the Network of ASEAN-Russia Think Tanks, which will be held at MGIMO late April.
At the end of the meeting, Andrey Baykov gave to the representative of the embassy a note regarding the allocation of funding for students applying to study at MGIMO from Vietnam. The guests noted the many benefits of providing scholarships to Vietnamese students.
