April 26th, the Director for Organization, Planning, Information and Analysis of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Marcos Rodriguez Costa and the Ambassador of Cuba to Russia, Gerardo Penalver Portal, came to MGIMO for a meeting with the University’s Rector, Anatoly Torkunov.
The Rector spoke about the long-running friendship between Russia and Cuba, and their productive collaboration in the sphere of education. Over time, many Cuban politicians and diplomats have studied at MGIMO and to this day the University continues to receive Cuban students, some of them in special quota places allocated to Cuba. The Cuban side expressed a special interest in MGIMO’s cooperation with the Russian Foreign Ministry and in research being jointly performed by diplomats and academics.
The meeting was also attended by the University’s Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs Andrey Baykov, members of the faculty and representatives of the Embassy of Cuba.
