The event was attended by the MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov, the Chairman of the Board (KEB HNB RUS Bank) Kim Inbae and the Deputy Head of the Economic Department (the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Russian Federation) Lee Jinmin.

The event was opened by the University’s Rector Anatoly Torkunov, who noted that MGIMO University has been cooperating with South Korean universities for a long time. Our students take internships to learn the language at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and Kyung Hee University. Since 2019, the School of Governance and Politics has held a joint double degree program for Master students with Yonsei University entitled “Smart City Management”. Scholars from MGIMO University, including Anatoly Torkunov himself and Associate Professors of the Department of Japanese, Korean, Indonesian and Mongolian Languages Valery Sukhinin and Ilya Dyachkov, in partnership with their colleagues from the Republic of Korean, publish books on the history of relations between the two countries.

Speaking on behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jinmin stressed the importance of the event: “KEB HNB RUS Bank organizes scholarships in Russia for the first time at the country’s known worldwide university, MGIMO University.” The Bank’s Chairman of the Board Kim Inbae expressed his hope that “today’s scholarship will make a small but valuable contribution to the studies and the future, as well as provide an opportunity to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between South Korean and Russia.” On behalf of the students, the first year MIEP Master’s degree student E. Gubaidullin thanked the MGIMO University’s management, the Bank, and MGIMO Endowment.
