December 11th, the Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs Andrey Baykov and the Head of the International Office, Egor Andreev, welcomed the Ambassador of Gambia to Russia, Jainaba Bah, who was accompanied by the First Secretary of the Embassy Kebba Singhateh and the Deputy Head of the Diplomatic Mission.
Andrey Baykov told the guests about the history and current development priorities of the University and the partnership agreements it has with universities in Africa. Egor Andreev spoke about African Studies at MGIMO, the University’s long running tradition of teaching African languages (Amharic, Afrikaans and Swahili), the African Club, and the thematic conferences organized with the participation of embassies.
Jainaba Bah described her work in Moscow over the last year, the ceremony during which she presented her credentials to Russian President Vladimir Putin in April 2018, the joint projects launched with the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Education to widen the scope of opportunities for Gambian students to study in Russia. The guest also spoke about different programs offered by the University of Banjul.
As a result of the meeting, the parties decided to develop educational ties between MGIMO and Gambia and to launch joint research projects.
