MGIMO — Cambridge University meeting on international law

MGIMO — Cambridge University meeting on international law

24 November 2021

On 24th November an online meeting was held between members of the International Law Department at MGIMO and the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, Cambridge University (UK). The meeting was a follow-up both to the visit to MGIMO by the UK Ambassador to Russia earlier in the year and the recent event for the 30 anniversary of the Moscow Journal of International Law.

The participants at the meeting were Professor Eyal Benvenisti (Director of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, Cambridge University ) and Professor Alexander Vylegzhanin (Head of the Department of International Law at MGIMO) and Professor Tim Potier (member of the Department of International Law at MGIMO).

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the establishment of long-term academic collaboration between the two Universities relating to research of international law.

During the meeting, a number of ideas were exchanged in preliminary form. Arising from these, it has been decided that an online seminar shall be held during the first half of May (2022) between Members of the International Law Department at MGIMO and Fellows and researchers of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, in order to discuss and determine the initial forms of  academic collaboration in the field of international law between MGIMO and Cambridge University.
