MGIMO Integration Days

7 September 2020

September 2nd-5th, the University’s Integration Days were held online in Russian and English for over 300 foreign students. The program was designed to help new MGIMO students adapt to the academic, social and cultural environment of the University.

The Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation A.Baykov and the Vice-Rector for Social Work and Youth Policy S.Surovtsev gave a welcome speech to the students, took questions from the audience and wished them productive and interesting studies.

The curators of the programs gave an introductory briefing, describing the educational process, the timetable and distance-learning format for students who cannot attend classes in person. The seminar participants also received information on migration issues and medical support.

An experienced group of trainers and psychologists, assisted by representatives of the Student Union, took the students on remote excursions of the MGIMO History Museum and different Moscow sights. Students also received advice on socio-cultural adaptation, attended master classes on productivity and time management and took personality tests to determine their psychological profile.

During the integration week, students participated in a unique training program, which allowed them to discover the history and culture of Russia and analyze the stereotypes surrounding how the Russian culture is perceived. During the trainings, the foreign students also were given advice on how to integrate in Russia and understand the country’s socio-cultural specificities, thus allowing them to find a common language and build trusting relationships with other students.

The peculiarities of the educational process, the values and traditions of the University were presented to students, who also found out about the activities of the different student organizations and creative studios of the Cultural Center and asked questions about extracurricular life.

Despite the remote format, the program of the Integration Week was dynamic and participants rated it highly. Foreign students made new acquaintances and became a part of the large and friendly MGIMO family.

All foreign students are currently in touch with their program coordinators, deans and “student buddies”.

The program of the Integration Days was prepared by the Department for Educational Work in cooperation with the International Office and the Student Union.
