Indian Ambassador Comes to MGIMO

November 23rd, the Ambassador of India to Russia, Pankaj Saran came to MGIMO for a meeting with the University’s management and to give a talk to an audience of students and members of the faculty.

The guest was greeted by MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs, Andrey Baykov. Also attending the interview, on MGIMO’s side, were the Head of the International Office Egor Andreev and the Deputy-Head of the Indian, Iranian and African Department Natalia Melekhina. During the meeting, Andrey Baykov told the Ambassador about MGIMO’s partnership with a number of Indian universities and think tanks. The parties discussed bilateral cooperation in education and the benefits of establishing student exchanges.

After the interview, Pankaj Saran delivered a lecture to students on Russian-Indian relations, India’s position in the world and the global economy. The speaker mulled over a number of issues including his country’s economic development, its role in maintaining security in Asia and globally, its contribution to BRICS and other international organizations. Describing the achievements of his country in a number of spheres, Pankaj Saran underlined that India is working towards increasing further yet its growth rates.

After his speech, the Ambassador took questions from the audience and visited the exhibition «Russia and India: 70 years of cooperation».
