January 13th, MGIMO welcomed a group of representatives of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), led by its Director General Pavel Kabat.
The visiting delegation also included the Program Director of Advanced Systems Analysis Elena Rovenskaya, the Research Scholar Anastasia Stepanova and the Science Diplomacy Officer Sergey Sizov. The guests were greeted by MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov, the University’s Vice-Rector for Research Evgeny Kozhokin and MGIMO experts.
The parties attended a presentation and took part in a roundtable discussion of IIASA’s main activities. Evgeny Kozhokin noted in his opening speech that while IIASA is a long-term partner of MGIMO University, their cooperation recently diminished, and that the meeting had for goal for the parties to recover their previous level of interaction. Indeed the bilateral relationship is invaluable to both sides as Russia is a member of IIASA.
Pavel Kabat spoke about the history and goals of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis and the priorities for its further development. IIASA currently has 24 member states, including Austria, Australia, Brazil, Britain, Germany, Russia, the USA, Ukraine, Finland, Sweden, South Africa and Japan. The Institute has partnership agreements with over 600 scientific centres the world over. The research performed at IIASA concerns a myriad of topics including economic growth, innovation, climate change, forest management, demography and migration. The presentation was followed by a question and answer session.
