Vietnamese Ambassador Ngo Duc Manh Comes to MGIMO

January 23rd, the Ambassador of Vietnam to the Russian Federation, Ngo Duc Manh visited MGIMO. The guest was received by the Rector of the University Anatoly Torkunov, the Vice-Rector for General Affairs Artem Malgin and the Director of the ASEAN Center Viktor Sumsky. The first secretaries of the embassy accompanied to Ambassador on this visit.

The Rector welcomed the guests and remarked that MGIMO has been teaching Vietnamese to its students since the 1950’s. Graduates of the University who speak fluent Vietnamese work in Vietnam and in other countries of Southeast Asia. A number of them have risen to the rank of ambassador.

Following the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin, 2019 was declared the year of Vietnam in Russia. MGIMO and the ASEAN Center made plans with the embassy to realize joint scientific and cultural events and expand bilateral cooperation. The parties also considered the possible ways to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Russian-Vietnamese diplomatic relations in 2020: organizing joint seminars and reinforcing the Russia-ASEAN partnership. MGIMO invited Vietnamese graduates to its 75th anniversary festivities.
