October 24th, at the invitation of MGIMO’s Diplomatic Negotiation Club, the Ambassador of Germany to Russia, Ruediger von Fritsch, gave a talk at MGIMO.
The guest was received by MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs Andrey Baykov, the Head of the International Office Egor Andreev and the Head of the German Language Department Marina Chigasheva.
Andrey Baykov described to the Ambassador MGIMO’s different cooperation projects with universities in Germany and remarked that there are currently German students enrolled in the University’s undergraduate, graduate, exchange and professional programs. Marina Chigasheva spoke about MGIMO’s tradition of teaching German and about the activities of the German Studies Club.
After the meeting, the Ambassador gave a talk entitled: «Russia, Germany and Europe. What’s next?», in which he examined the current state of bilateral relations and analyzed how the new challenges of globalization affect Russia and the European Union. Ruediger von Fritsch noted that today the main way to strengthen international cooperation is through regional integration, and that the European Union ensures stability in Europe.
