A memorial Cross was unveiled and blessed at the cemetery in Fort Ross and a commemoration ceremony for Russian sailors was held at the Mare Island Naval Cemetery, in San Francisco.

MGIMO was represented at the event by Ekaterina Shebalina from the Department of Diplomacy and Artem Polyskalov student of the School of International Relations, who gave presentations on the history and current state of Russian-American relations and how academic diplomacy can help resolve conflicts.
