Foreign Ministers of Russia and Uzbekistan Welcome the 5th MGIMO World Alumni Forum Participants

On May 19th the Palace of Symposiums of the Alisher Navoiy National Library of Uzbekistan hosted the official opening ceremony of the 5th MGIMO World Alumni Forum.

Sergey Lavrov, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the MGIMO Board of Trustees and the Supervisory Board, sent a welcome address for the participants of the Forum, which was read out by the Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Pankin.

According to the Minister, MGIMO is a major educational and research center which continues to develop very dynamically, creating new programmes and degrees. Sergey Lavrov emphasized the contribution of the University to the promotion of international humanitarian and scientific cooperation and to the development of public diplomacy potential.

Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamalov gave a speech at the opening of the Forum. He stressed the high level of the meeting which attests to the fact that MGIMO is not only one of the leading universities in Russia, but an internationally recognised institution of higher education training experts for many foreign states, including for Uzbekistan. The Minister expressed his confidence that this Forum will be conducive to further development of strong and long-term ties. In today’s world there is a need for contacts which enrich the wide international network and, most importantly, enhance friendship and trust between states.
