March 27th, MGIMO welcomed a delegation from Qatar, led by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education Ibrahim Al-Nuaimi. The guests were received by the University’s Vice-Rector for General Affairs, Artem Malgin.
The delegation also comprised Mohammed Al-Khulaifi, Dean of the College of Law at Qatar University, professors of the University, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and of the Embassy of Qatar in Moscow. Attending the meeting on MGIMO’s side were the University’s Vice-Rector for General Affairs, Artem Malgin, the Head of the International Office Egor Andreev and members of the faculty.
Artem Malgin described to the guests the specificities of Arabic studies at the University, which originated from the Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages, and spoke about MGIMO’s cooperation with universities and think tanks of Arab countries, including the Diplomatic Institute of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the Emirates Diplomatic Academy, the University of Jordan and the Prince Saud Al-Faisal Institute of Diplomatic Studies. The representatives of Qatar University spoke about their Law College, showed an interest in MGIMO’s English-language BA and MA programs and considered the opportunities for cooperation with MGIMO’s International Law School.
At the end of the meeting, MGIMO professors presented, at the guests’ request, Russia’s position on the problems in the Middle East in the context of the Syrian crisis. The delegation was also taken on a tour of MGIMO Museum and the Museum of Rare Books, which contains the reconstructed book collection of the unique library of the Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages, with many ancient works in Arabic.
