MGIMO Welcomes Delegation of Chinese Academy of Macroeconomic Research

March 25th, a delegation of the Chinese Academy of Macroeconomic Research of the National Development and Reform Commission of the PRC, led by Vice-President Wang Changlin, came to MGIMO.

MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov greeted the guests and spoke about the University’s tradition of teaching Chinese. He also emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation in education, describing the partnership programs MGIMO has with leading Chinese universities.

During a meeting organized by the Growth Economy Institute with the participation of Chinese and Russian experts, the sides discussed innovative approaches to strategic planning and management. The event was attended by the Head of the Department of Corporate and Project Management at MGIMO also Presidential Commissioner for Entrepreneurs’ Rights Boris Titov, representatives of the Growth Economy Institute, the Head of the Department of International Capital Markets at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) at the Russian Academy of Sciences Yakov Mirkin, the Director of MGIMO’s Center for Comprehensive Chinese Studies and Regional Projects Alexey Voskresensky and other scholars. The meeting participants mulled over the ways to develop the non-primary sector of the national economy.

Wang Changlin also gave a talk to students of the University. Introducing the guest, Boris Titov noted that the Chinese Academy of Macroeconomic Research has defined to a large extent over the last 40 years China’s macroeconomic policies and has contributed to the country’s economic success. The Vice-President spoke of the development of industrial clusters in China, explaining the country’s economic policy and the various forecasting methods they have developed. The speaker emphasized the importance of state support to develop research, and after his speech, took questions from the audience.

During the visit, the Institute of Growth Economics and the Chinese Academy of Macroeconomic Research signed a cooperation agreement, paving the way to preparing joint macroeconomic forecasts and common initiatives.
