MGIMO Alumni Meeting in Czech Republic

December 16th, the Alumni Association in the Czech Republic organized its yearly meeting online.

The event was solemnly opened by MGIMO Rector A.Torkunov (graduate of 1972) and the Ambassador to the Czech Republic A.Zmeyevsky (graduate of 1979). The Third Secretary of the Russian Embassy in the Czech Republic K.Sultanova (graduate of 2013) moderated the meeting.

A.Torkunov related to his Czech colleagues the latest achievements of the University, described the new programs and the work of MGIMO’s branches in Odintsovo and Tashkent. The Rector also spoke of the achievements of the Russian-Czech dialogue between civil societies and urged alumni to actively participate in future MGIMO initiatives in this sphere.

The Head of the Rossotrudnichestvo office in the Czech Republic A.Tkachev (graduate of 1988) shared his insights on the main projects aimed at expanding cultural and humanitarian ties between Russia and the Czech Republic and underlined the country's growing interest in Russian cultural life.

Z.Shee greeted the participants on behalf of the management of the MGIMO Alumni Club in the Czech Republic (graduate of 1977). After emphasising the fact that the alumni community closely follows the latest developments of the University, he expressed gratitude to MGIMO for the work carried out with schoolchildren within the framework of the “Artek” and “Okean” summer camps.

Z.Shee noted that the club of Czech graduates would ensure that the number of applicants from the Czech Republic keeps on growing.

The meeting came to a close with a speech by I.Arsenev, Director of the MGIMO Alumni Association (graduate of 2011), in which he recalled that in 2021 the Association would be celebrating its 30th anniversary. I. Arsenev expressed hope that face-to-face meetings would be possible soon and spoke about the upcoming changes in the work of the Association, encouraging the Czech colleagues to actively participate in the life of MGIMO.
