Costa Rican Ambassador Comes to MGIMO

October 24th, at the invitation of the University’s Spanish Language Department and the Ibero-American Center, the Ambassador of Costa Rica in Moscow, Arturo Fournier Facio came to MGIMO.

The Ambassador first has a meeting with MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs Andrey Baykov, who told the guest about the history of the University and the different programs it offers. The sides expressed the desire to develop cooperation in education between their two countries.

Arturo Fournier Facio then gave a talk to students and members of the faculty about the political system of Costa Rica and the civil war, which led to the complete rejection of the army. The Ambassador also noted that his country uses modern technologies and 98% of the country’s electricity comes from renewable sources. The guest, who was previously a lecturer in International Law, underlined the importance of education for the social development of a country. After his speech, the Ambassador answered the students’ questions.
