October 8th, the Congress of French Teachers «Assises Universitaires du Francais Edition 2018» started its work at MGIMO. The event was organized by the French Embassy, the French Institute in Moscow and the Campus France agency and is supported this year by the Trianon Dialogue Civil Society Forum. The 2018 Congress is devoted to the ways of teaching French to beginners and gathered 250 teachers from 50 Russian cities.
MGIMO Rector, Anatoly Torkunov, also co-chairman of the Trianon Dialogue, the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Marina Borovskaya, the Counselor for Cooperation and Culture of the French Embassy in Russia Olivier Guillaume, the Diplomatic Counselor of the French Embassy in Russia Paul-Bertrand Barets and other representatives of the French Embassy and of the Trianon dialogue attended the meeting.
Kicking off the event, Anatoly Torkunov remarked that while French remains in Russia a popular language to study, there is also a growing interest in the Russian language in France. This positive trend is the basis for developing professional contacts and mutual understanding between the two countries. The Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education expressed her pleasure at this opportunity to meet those who are promoting bilateral communication. She also noted that in order to promote this dialogue, it is necessary to master new information technologies and to modernize the educational system.
The Counselors of the French Embassy in Russia spoke about the various programs they are implementing to expand bilateral cultural cooperation. Representatives of the Trianon Dialogue described the digital platform created in order to develop contacts between the civil societies of the two countries.
