MGIMO Holds Conference on Environmental Education

March 25th, MGIMO hosted the 1st International Youth Conference on «Environmental Education for Sustainable Development». The initiative to hold this event at MGIMO came from the Federal Child Ecological and Biological Center of the Russian Ministry of Education and the University’s School of Applied Economics and Commerce.

Students from all over Russia and Belarus having won various environmental competitions were invited to participate in the conference, which aimed at developing and promoting research and development initiatives to solve environmental problems. The children and students combined their efforts with representatives of Russian and foreign institutions to formulate sustainable development goals and to design projects to promote youth communities devoted to ecological problems.

The event was attended by MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Administrative and Legal Affairs Sergey Shitkov and members of the faculty. The Vice-Rector gave a speech on Russia’s environmental agenda. The conference gathered representatives of various organizations: the UN Information Centre, the Federal Child Ecological and Biological Center, the Ecoestate Innovation Center of Eco-development, the Sustainable Development Councils of various Russian cities.

Experts and students made presentations on: environmental education and sustainable development, how adults can contribute to development goals, the environmental agenda until 2030, the role of youth in developing and fulfilling eco-developmental goals, ensuring food security, promoting a healthy lifestyle, making cities environmentally sustainable, forest management and other topics.
