MGIMO Climbs 47 Places in QS Global Ranking 2016/2017

6 September 2016

September 6th, the leading international rating agency Quacquarelli Symonds (UK) published its latest rating of the best universities in the world — QS WUR. This year, MGIMO rose from 397th to 350th place, strengthening its position in the Top-5 Russian universities.

QS WUR was first published in 2004 and has since then become widely known in the academic, professional and student community as one of the three main international rankings of universities. In Russia, the QS ranking is used as an key indicator to assess the effectiveness of the state program aimed at improving the global competitiveness of national universities. In 2016, universities from 81 countries were ranked and 22 Russia universities participated in the rating.

This year, MGIMO has climbed 47 positions in the global QS ranking and taken the 350th place, ahead of renowned institutions such as George Washington University, American University, Universite Paris Descartes, or the University of Kent.

Universities are assessed in this ranking according to six criteria: Academic Reputation (40%), Employer Reputation (10%), Citations per Faculty (20%), Student to Faculty ratio (20%), International Faculty ratio and International Student ratio (5% each). Compared with 2015, MGIMO improved significantly on criteria such as Employer Reputation and Student to Faculty ratio. The first criteria reflects the fact that the University’s brand is becoming more recognizable to employers at home and abroad.
