March 19th, Lubos Blaha, a member of the Parliament of the Slovak Republic, a prominent political scientist, researcher at the Institute of Political Science of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, and lecturer at the University of St. Cyril and Methodius came to MGIMO.
The guest was received by MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov and spoke with Slovak students of the University. Lubos Blaha gave a lecture on «Anti-globalism versus Alter-globalism» to graduate students, highlighting the differences in the approaches to globalization of both groups and their take on capitalism.
Lubos Blaha also gave a talk on «Marxism, Nationalism and Globalization» in which he explained the ambivalent approach of Marxist philosophy to the functions of sovereign states and the changes brought about by Neo-Marxism. After the lecture, the guest took questions from the audience.
Lubos Blaha is a member of parliament for the left-wing SMER-SD party and has been the Chairman of the Committee of the Slovak National Council for European Affairs since 2012. His visit was sponsored by the Art, Science and Sport Foundation and MGIMO’s Endowment Fund.
