MGIMO Welcomes Rector of King Saud University

May 16th, Badran A. Al-Omar, Rector of King Saud University, which is the largest in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the University’s Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Ahmad Al-Aamri, came to MGIMO, accompanied by staff of the Saudi Arabian embassy in Moscow.

The guests were received by MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Research, Evgeny Kozhokin and faculty members of the University. During their meeting, MGIMO’s Vice-Rector spoke of the dynamic cooperation between Russia and Saudi Arabia in the sphere of research and education. Evgeny Kozhokin went on to describe MGIMO’s specificities and the leading position it occupies among universities in Russia and worldwide. The University enrolls every year in its English language BA and MA programs students from dozens of countries. The Vice-Rector also underlined students growing interest in the Middle East, reflected by the large number of students studying Arabic.

In turn, Professor Al-Omar related the history of King Saud University, established in 1957 and drew attention to its recent achievements, which have propelled it forward in global academic ratings. The Rector remarked that Russian is taught at King Saud University and expressed interest in establishing a partnership with MGIMO.

The parties decided it would be mutually beneficial to develop cooperation between their two universities and committed to involve the concerned departments in order to study the possibility of implementing exchanges of students and faculty members.
