December 11th, the Ambassador of Qatar to Russia Fahd al-Attiyah came to MGIMO at the invitation of the University’s Negotiation Club.
The guest was greeted by the Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs, Andrey Baykov, the Head of the International Office Egor Andreev and members of the faculty. The sides had a meeting during which they discussed cooperation in education.
After that, the Ambassador gave a talk to students of the University about bilateral relations between Russia and Qatar, underlining the most promising areas of collaboration. Fahd al-Attiyah remarked that Russia is very attractive for foreign investors and that Qatar is keen to invest in the company «Rosneft». The countries are also developing their cultural ties, with joint fashion shows, sports events and expositions being held on a regular basis. Military cooperation is also becoming an important part of bilateral relations. The guest expressed his country’s willingness to develop joint educational projects and to increase the number of students from Qatar studying in Russia.
After his talk, the Ambassador took questions from the audience. The meeting was moderated by the Head of the International Office, Egor Andreev.
