MGIMO Welcomes Ambassador of Luxembourg

November 14th, the Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to Russia, Jean-Claude Knebeler, came to MGIMO. The event was organized by the «Russian World» Foundation and the University’s International Department. The Consul and Deputy Head of Mission Gilles Bauer and the Advisor to the Executive Director of the «Russian World» Foundation Anatoly Blinov accompanied the Ambassador.

The guests first met with MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs, Andrey Baykov, the Head of the International Department Egor Andreev, and the Head of the German Language Department Marina Chigasheva. The sides discussed bilateral cooperation and the opportunities for MGIMO students to undergo placements in universities within the European Union.

Then the Ambassador gave a talk to students of the University on Luxembourg’s role as one of the capitals of the EU. Jean-Claude Knebeler spoke about the main challenges currently faced by the organization, about the initiatives aimed at leveling the socio-economic standards of EU countries, and the prospects for the admission of new states. The guest also analyzed the current state and the history of bilateral relations between Russia and Luxembourg, underlining his country’s key role in promoting better relations between Russia and the EU. After his speech, the Ambassador took questions from the audience.
