April 23rd, MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs received the Ambassador of Yemen to the Russian Federation, Ahmed Salem Al-Wahishi. After the meeting, the guest delivered a lecture to undergraduate and graduate students fluent in Arabic.
The sides discussed during their interview the paths for expanding cooperation between MGIMO and universities in Yemen, with a focus on joint research and educational programs. The parties decided to enlist the support of their respective foreign ministries to sign a memorandum of understanding. The meeting was also attended by the Head of the International Office, Egor Andreev, and faculty members.
The Ambassador devoted his lecture, delivered in Arabic, to the internal political situation in Yemen, the different initiatives aimed at ending the civil war in the country, recent developments in the Middle East, bilateral relations between Russia and Yemen, and to reinvigorating the partnership.
