March 4th, MGIMO Rector A.Torkunov received the Ambassador of Yemen to Russia, Ahmed Salem Al-Wahishi.
The Ambassador expressed his appreciation at MGIMO having signed a memorandum of understanding with the Diplomatic Institute of the Foreign Ministry of Yemen. The sides decided, in the framework of that agreement, to make plans for young Yemeni scientists to come to MGIMO in the autumn of 2021. A.S.Al-Wahishi also asked MGIMO for help in translating into Russian and publishing his book “90 Years of Friendship of Yemen and Russia”, which deals with the history of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the signing of 1928 friendship agreement.
The Rector expressed interest in cooperating on this project and suggested that a presentation of the book at MGIMO could be timed with the release of the Russian version of the monograph. Civil servants and diplomats from Arab countries as well as Russian and Arab scholars could be invited to the event.
The sides decided to expand their educational and scientific ties, using the Memorandum of Understanding between MGIMO and the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Yemen as a basis for future cooperation.
The Yemeni Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the Rector, on behalf of the entire embassy, for his contribution to the development of bilateral relations.
Also attending the meeting were the Head of the International Office E.Andreev and the Deputy Head of the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Languages N.Pantyukhin.
