MGIMO Among Best Universities Worldwide in QS Subject Rankings

27 February 2019

February 27th, the international rating agency QS published the latest edition of its «QS University Rankings: By Subject». This year, 1222 universities from 153 countries representing 48 different research areas participated in the ranking. MGIMO made it into the top 100 for «Politics and International Relations» and into the top 300 for «Law».

In the «Politics and International Relations» rating, MGIMO broke into the 51-100 range (along with Moscow State University and the Higher School of Economics) while over 646 universities qualifying for assessment feature in the final list. In the ranking for «Law» MGIMO was placed in the range 201-250 out of 792 universities qualifying for review.

MGIMO received a particularly high assessment for its reputation among employers, which is based on interviews conducted by QS with representatives of the worldwide professional community. The subject ranking of universities also takes into account academic reputation, quotation rates of published articles and the Hirsch index, although the weight of each criteria varies from one subject to another.

As is also the case in the QS institutional rankings, the leader based on the number of universities presented in the final table is the USA, followed by France, the United Kingdom, Russia, India, Germany, China, Japan and South Korea. While the competition was extremely tough, Russia and India found themselves in the top 10, taking respectively the 4th and 5th places and ousting Italy and Canada.
