Meeting of State Duma Expert Committee on International Cooperation in Education and Science at MGIMO

February 14th, representatives of the State Duma Expert Committee on International Cooperation in Education and Science came to MGIMO for a meeting with the participation of MGIMO academics.

The event was attended by government officials and experts in the sphere of education, including State Duma deputies, researchers and heads of departments of different ministries. MGIMO was represented at the event by MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov, the Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs Andrey Baykov, the Vice-Rector for Human Resources Vladimir Morozov and the Head of the Department of European Law Mark Entin.

In his welcome speech the Rector underlined the importance of developing a close cooperation between government representatives and academics in order to solve some issues resulting from voids in the legal framework for international cooperation in higher education.

The Chairman of the Expert Committee, President of the Russian State University for the Humanities, Efim Pivovar, remarked that more attention is being paid that ever before to the export of Russian education and the life of foreign students in Russia.

Andrey Baykov gave a talk on the difficulties faced when exploring the export potential of Russian education and spoke about Russia’s experience training foreign citizens.

Vera Skorobogatova, Director of the Main State Expert Center for Education Evaluation, presented the results of a study on improving the recognition of foreign education certificates. Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia spoke about the changes in migration policy planned up until 2025 to accommodate a greater inflow of students to Russia.

After the expert presentations, the members of the Committee discussed the reports and made some proposals, which will be used as recommendations to state authorities.
