December 6th, MGIMO Rector A. Torkunov welcomed Paul A. Berkman, Director of the Science Diplomacy Centre at Tufts University.

During their meeting, Professor Berkman spoke about the experience developed abroad implementing Science Diplomacy, describing its theoretical and practical aspects, and explaining how the concept is understood at Tufts University.

The American guest emphasized the importance of his many years of collaboration with the MGIMO School of International Law, which takes the form of a joint analysis of current political and legal issues and a dual training course for graduate students of MGIMO and Tufts University devoted to «Arctic Law and Scientific Diplomacy», taught in English and carried out by video-conference. This practical course often finishes with an Arctic Council Model and the joint validation by the students of two universities of an environmental declaration.

The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Program of International Law, Professor A. Vylegzhanin.
