MGIMO Rector Greets Delegation from Uzbekistan

September 11th, during the course of their visit to Moscow on the occasion of the Second Youth Festival of Russia and Uzbekistan, a delegation from Uzbekistan came to MGIMO. The delegation was led by the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, International Economic Relations, Investment and Tourism of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Alisher Kurmanov.

MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov welcomed the head of the delegation. During their interview, the sides discussed issues of cooperation in education between Russia and Uzbekistan, including the work of MGIMO’s branch in Tashkent. The meeting was also attended by the University’s Vice-Rector for Social Development Igor Loginov, the Vice-Rector for General Affairs Artem Malgin, the Head of the Department for Educational Work Stanislav Surovtsev and the Head of the Secretariat of the Rector, Hihola Ulugova.

The Uzbek delegation comprised representatives of regional and local authorities responsible for social and youth policy, representatives of the Youth Union of Uzbekistan, young businessmen, journalists, and public figures.

At the start of a round table on educational and youth policy, MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Social Development Igor Loginov welcomed the participants. Stanislav Surovtsev described to the guests the structure of the University’s social and cultural space and the extracurricular activities offered to students. Vladimir Kovalev, Coordinator for International Cooperation and External Relations at the the Department for Educational Work, presented the work of the University’s Center for International Cooperation, describing the main initiatives undertaken to involve youth in the realization of foreign policy decisions.

Alisher Kurmanov thanked the Rector and his team for the hearty welcome, and expressed the desire of the Uzbek side to expand cooperation with Russia on the realization of youth policy, as Russia has a lot of experience in this area.

At the end of their visit to MGIMO, the guests were taken on a tour of the MGIMO History Museum, where they discovered the rich past of the University.

The meeting took place in the framework of the strategic partnership between MGIMO and the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs.
