October 21st-22nd, a Russian-British seminar devoted to «British and Russian Identities and Cultures in a Comparative and Cross-Cultural Perspective 1800-2000 » was held in London. The event was sponsored by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
The seminar dealt with a number of questions including how identity is studied in Russia and the UK, the different ways national identities are represented, cross-cultural communication and its impact on Russian and British academic and scientific discourses. The interdisciplinary nature of research on identity in the humanities and social sciences was emphasized.
The seminar gathered historians, archive specialists and museum representatives from the UK and Russia. MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Research, Evgeny Kozhokin, made a presentation on «Political Identity and Loyalty in Russia. (XIX — early XX century)».
