MGIMO at All-Russian Conference on University-Employer Interaction

May 15th-17th, the third All-Russian Conference on «Best Practices in the Interaction of Universities and Employers» took place at Novosibirsk State University.

A number of topics were discussed during the conference including the current situation for young people in the labor market, students’ career preferences, employers’ requirements, strategies to expand the cooperation between employers and universities, mechanisms to make career centres more efficient and the monitoring of graduates’ employment rates. The event attracted representatives of various corporations and staff from the career centres of leading universities. MGIMO was represented at the event by its Vice-Rector for Human Resources, Vladimir Morozov and the Head of the Department for Work with Students and Graduates Anton Podshivalov.

The conference was kicked off by the First Vice-Rector of Novosibirsk State University, Sergey Golushko, who spoke about how implementing joint programs with employers helps with the employment of graduates.

Vladimir Morozov then made a presentation on the new ways of working with students and graduates. The Vice-Rector noted that many universities are including vocational guidance courses in their programs, taking the example of MGIMO’s cooperation with the company SuperJob. He also described MGIMO’s partnership agreements with regional administrations, which enable students to find out about job opportunities in their region of origin.

During the second day, the Chairman of the Board of the All-Russian Association of Career Centres Anton Podshivalov presented a report on the main goals and achievements of the association. On the third day, guests participated in a round table on Career Guidance in Universities, which was moderated by Anton Podshivalov. During the discussion, the parties mulled over the ways of monitoring graduates’ employment rates, vocational guidance tests, mentoring, and inter-university cooperation. The round table was followed by a meeting of the Board of the Association, during which some universities were admitted as new members.
