14 March 2019

March 14th, Christian de Fouloy, the Chairman of the Association of Accredited Public Policy Advocates to the European Union and Managing Director of BAI-Business Advisors International, an international consulting group came to MGIMO.

Christian de Fouloy has made a name for himself as an expert in the field of public policy, lobbying and government relations and has authored a book entitled «Fouloy’s Explanatory Lobbying Dictionary».

The guest was greeted by MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Human Resources Vladimir Morozov, who introduced the guest and noted that lobbying organizations not only represent a wide array of interests but also contribute to forming ethical standards in international relations. The lecture was attended by the Professor of the School of Governance and Politics Andrey Degtyarev and students of the University.

During his lecture, Christian de Fouloy presented the different lobbying mechanisms used in the European Union to reach various goals. He noted that lobbyism is a truly effective «soft power» tool for resolving bilateral and multilateral conflicts. The guest emphasized the fact that civil society, if it was included in the political process, could help to improve relations between Russia and the EU and put an end to the sanctions. The speaker took questions from the audience and thanked MGIMO for the warm welcome.
